NEW YORK -- The New Work Ethic is leaving tired-looking, basic dress shirts on the back shelf.
Looser-fitting, casual dress shirts in new fabrications are bridging the gap between sportswear and furnishings for fall. Dress shirt makers and stores are stepping up their sportier fabrics and patterns.
Retailers and manufacturers attribute interest in dressed-down dress shirts to the fashion explosion in chambray sport shirts and floral ties. They say fewer men will be showing up in their offices with white shirts paired with navy ties.
