While politics created a great divide between the owners and the union in forging an agreeable drug policy, consensus among the medical community was concrete: Creatine, growth hormones and, especially, steroids would not only enhance performance in incredible ways, but could severely damage and possibly kill a player, or cause sterility in an athlete's children or grandchildren.
