Jun. 17--YOKOHAMA, Japan--In the center of one of the world's busiest ports, teams of Japanese scientists are tackling one of the greatest challenges facing biologists today mapping the proteins that help form the building blocks of life.
From the outside, the laboratories don't appear to be a place where major scientific discoveries are made.
Rust-stained warehouses and aging factories surround the laboratory complex, which lies a short walk from the waterfront. Just over the fence, stevedores are shifting tons of cargo with cranes and forklifts.
