NEW YORK -- Consumers continuing to move away from carbonated beverages and toward fruit drinks and bottled water have minimized growth in the carbonated beverages segment over the past few years.

Still, marketers say, some soft drinks have flourished as suppliers offer new flavors along with longtime favorites, and tweak established brands in an effort to attract new consumers.

According to the Beverage Marketing Corp. carbonated soft drink sales in the United States increased by only 0.8% in 2002.
