Boat slip rentals reflect impact of economic slump
For the first time in many summers, Fairfield County marinas on Long Island Sound are reporting boat slip vacancies.
Business is down slightly, marina owners say, with slip rentals generally off 10 to 15 percent. However, rentals have not run aground, marina managers report.
A spokeswoman for the Connecticut Marine Trade Association, which represents 125 of the state's 500 marinas, said the boating business is cyclical and slip rentals are holding their own compared to past years.
