Jun. 19--Members of the union that represents about 600 news, advertising and other workers at The Sun voted overwhelmingly last night to give the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild authority to call a strike.
The vote was taken six days before Tuesday's expiration of the current contract at the newspaper. A strike would require a final vote by members.
"I think people are really concerned," said M. William Salganik, a reporter at The Sun and president of the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild. "I think that we got a strong message to go back and try to get a fair deal." The Guild ...
