Head Start works. It's as simple as that. Children in Head Start programs achieve more when they get to school. More of them stay in school to graduate from high school than other disadvantaged children. Their parents have opportunities to become more self-sufficient. Helping nearly 1 million children every year, it simply is one of the most successful federal programs ever launched in this country.
Why, then, is the Bush administration intent on messing with it?
