Eastern Pulp & Paper Corporation said that fresh capacity and cost reductions this month at its two mills in Maine, combined with ongoing funding from shareholders and banks, are strengthening the company's ability to serve its customers and prospects in commercial printing, specialty and technical converting markets.

This week, the federal judge overseeing Eastern's financial reorganization ordered a 7.5% wage reduction from unionized employees at the company's Brewer and Lincoln, Maine mills.
