To Nomar Garciaparra, baseball in 2003 is not unlike Salem Village in 1692. There's a witch hunt going on. Everyone is a suspect.
During a team meeting with club officials during spring training, Garciaparra voiced the feelings of a generation of baseball players. According to one person in the meeting, Garciaparra expressed frustration in attempting to communicate with fans, and especially the media.
"They don't believe in us," he reportedly said. "They all think we're just a bunch of spoiled millionaires who are all juiced up on steroids."
