More than 50,000 people attended the dedication of the International Peace Garden on July 14, 1932. This 2,339-acre park straddles the border between Manitoba, Canada, and North Dakota, United States. The garden was the idea of a Canadian horticulturist, Dr. Henry Moore. He wanted to recognize the peace and goodwill between Canada and the United States.
The spot chosen for the garden is almost exactly halfway between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and 30 miles north of the geographic center of North America. Canada and the United States donated the land for the garden.
