Du Pont introduces `Suva' alternatives; Both 123, 134a available - at a price

NEW YORK - Du Pont has made commercially available the first in its family of environmentally acceptable refrigerants under the trade name "Suva." The announcement was made at a press conference held during ASHRAE's winter meeting.

Suva-123, which now costs $5 to $6 per lb, will replace CFC-11, which costs around $2.20 per lb. Due to CFC taxes for 11, and lower production costs for the alternative, their prices should cross in 1993. Prices should cross in 1995 for Suva-134a ($10/lb) and CFC-12 ($2.40/lb), for the same reasons.
