With his most significant race in more than a year just days away, distance runner Nick Rogers sat on a couch in the Bowerman Building at Hayward Field, casually massaged his right Achilles' tendon, and instead talked longingly of a meet that won't happen for another 14 months.
The USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships begin Thursday in Stanford, Calif., and Rogers, a Eugene resident, is expected to contend for the title in the 5,000 meters, as well as a spot on the national team that will travel to Paris in August for the World Outdoor Championships.
