Mountain Environments and Communities attempts to fill a gap in the literature by providing an advanced and in-depth text on mountain geography. The effort is valiant, but the result falls well short of the mark as a well-rounded text. It is actually quite specialized, leaning heavily on the cultural and political ecology of a few mountain regions. A better title would have been "Mountain Cultural and Political Ecology' Indeed, the title is misleading. As an appropriate metaphor ...
