Gas Industry, Automaker Begin Gas-Powered Truck Program

HOUSTON -- The General Motors Truck & Bus Group and the Gas Research Institute (GRI) have signed an agreement to begin engineering and product development of GM light- and medium-duty trucks powered by compressed natural gas.

The nearly $40 million program to develop and manufacture a dedicated natural gas engine will be funded by GM Truck & Bus and a gas industry consortium led by GRI. The objective is to offer a regular production CNG-powered truck by the mid-1990s.
