Petasites hybridus is a traditionally used medicinal herb, which exists in two chemo-varieties. Regarding effectiveness and safety, the petasin chemo-variety seems to be superior to the furano-petasin chemo-variety (Scheidegger et al. 1998). Therefore plant material from the petasin chemo-variety has been selected and cultivated by farmers. The leaves (Wildi et al. 1998) from the cultivated strain (EU 7241), which are harvested at least twice a year, are dried and extracted with carbon-dioxide using a patented procedure (Steiner et al. 2001; EP 1023079).
