Low-cost concept booming

A Missippi supermarket owner has found a niche for himself in the fastfood business, gourmet-style.

The unlikely combination of gourmet and fast food has been the secret to quick growth in a business where one would think it's all been done before, says Lattimore "Lattie" Michael, founder of the Back Yard Burgers drive-thru chain, which has grown from one restaurant in 1987 to 20 locations in four states.

Twelve more Back Yard Burgers should open within 120 days, and 24 more stores are expected to open next year.
