Robert Clifton "Clif" Duncan of Altadena, Calif., former director of the Guidance and Control Division of the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, died May 17 in Altadena from complications related to Parkinson's disease. He was 79.
Born in Jonesville, Va., he was raised in Beavercreek, Ohio. Mr. Duncan was nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy in 1942. At Annapolis, he was a battalion commander and varsity baseball player. After graduation, Mr. Duncan served on the USS Bremerton in the occupation forces of Japan and China. In 1948, he became a naval aviator and served in the Navy's first atomic weapons squadron.
