CARIBBEAN SOURCING HASN'T LOST ITS LUSTER
WASHINGTON -- Despite the specter of future problems, the Bush Administration is bullish on 807-type production programs, which focus on the Caribbean Basin.
In fact, Washington may be ready to expand the programs. Ronald Levin, director of the Commerce Department's Office of Textiles and Apparel, said 807 has "more than fulfilled its objectives" as part of the Caribbean Basin Initiative implemented by President Reagan in 1986. In fact, Levin added, "807 has been the fastest-growing portion of the CBI."
