Simmons fades fast as Lockheed takeover threat

Lockheed Corp., with its stock at a 52-week high, is in much better shape this year to repel another takeover attempt threatened by Texas billionaire Harold Simmons, who has been trying to acquire the Calabasas-based defense and aerospace company for almost two years, investors and industry analysts said.

Pending the outcome of any last-minute legal maneuvers, Simmons had until late last week to submit his slate of proposals and candidates for election to the board of directors at the annual meeting of Lockheed shareholders scheduled for April 2.
