UCSD's Dynes New UC President: The University of California Board of Regents tapped an insider--UC San Diego Chancellor Robert C. Dynes--as the 18th president of the 10-campus system.
Dynes, 60, has been the chancellor at UCSD for seven years.
He is a first-generation college graduate. The Canada native came to UCSD as a professor of physics in 1991 after a two-decade career in the private sector and was named chancellor in 1996, according to a UCSD press release.
Dynes will take over as president on Oct. 2.
He succeeds Richard C. Atkinson, who will retire from the UC presidency after ...
