The tire and rubber industry is delighted with House passage of a bill that would overhaul the regulations surrounding the conduct of class action lawsuits.
Consumer groups, however, claim the legislation would unfairly limit the legal alternatives available to plaintiffs injured by defective products.
The House approved its version of the Class Action Fairness Act June 12 by a 253-170 vote. Perhaps the main feature of the bill in the eyes of its business and industry supporters is its provision that all class actions involving more than $5 million worth of claims are under the automatic jurisdiction of the federal courts. ...
