VLSI PC/AT chip set spans 10 to 20 MHz TEMPE, AZ--VLSI Technology Inc earlier this month announced a three-device PC-logic and peripheral-control chip set aimed at PC/AT-compatible 80286- and Intel 80386SX-based laptop and notebook computers with clock speeds from 10 to 20 MHz.
But the company may be entering the business too late, with too many chips, and at too high a price to win designs away from Intel Corp (Santa Clara, CA), Advanced Micro Devices (Sunnyvale, CA), and Chips & Technologies (San Jose, CA). All three companies offer either more highly-integrated or lower-cost chip sets.
