When Public Sector Workers Organize
This carefully crafted volume advances our understanding of selected aspects of public sector labor relations, notably, the effects of public sector bargaining laws on unionism and terms of employment, and the effects of unions on wage and nonwage bargaining outcomes. This achievement is all the more notable because the volume is the product of a conference on public sector bargaining held in 1986 and sponsored by the National Bureau of Economic Research; most conference-type publications, in contrast, are uneven collections of received knowledge containing few new theoretical or empirical contributions.
