THE city of Carson has received more than its share of notoriety, whether it's the National Football League's renewed interest in a freeway-adjacent property as a potential stadium site, the opening of the Home Depot Center sports facility or the indictments of three city officials (including the mayor, Daryl Sweeney). Amid all this, City Manager Jerry Groomes has remained at the center of the South Bay city's development activity. Besides being the point man on the NFL discussions, Groomes most recently played a major role in securing Hopkins Real Estate Group's purchase and pending redevelopment of the city's SouthBay Pavilion.
