Wisconsin consumers aired fewer gripes last year about the companies that provide their telephone, electricity and water service compared to the year before.

Complaints to the state Public Service Commission in 2002 dropped 20 percent from 2001 figures, hitting the lowest level since 1996.

Wisconsin consumers lodged 9,375 complaints with the regulatory agency last year, down from 11,773 complaints filed in 2001.
