A HIGH COURT judge today condemned the Health and Safety Executive over a failed attempt to prosecute the most senior officer at Scotland Yard which cost the taxpayer [pounds sterling]3million.
The [pounds sterling]2million defence costs alone would have been enough to put 70 extra probationary police officers on the streets of London, the court heard.
The charges followed two incidents in which police fell through fragile roofs in pursuit of suspected burglars.
One officer was killed.
