Object-oriented databases are finally coming of age, moving out of the research laboratory and into the marketplace. This is one of the main conclusions of a new report from Ovum entitled Databases for Objects: the Market Opportunity.

Ovum says most relational database vendors are extending their products to support objects. The report predicts that it is these extended relational databases which will build on the existing customer base and dominate the market during the early 1990s.
