Elon University will become an official member of the Southern Conference on Tuesday, July 1. The Phoenix will replace Virginia Military Institute, which is leaving the 12-member conference the same day to join the Big South Conference.

Elon, which had been a member of the Big South Conference, sponsors 16 intercollegiate sports: seven for men and nine for women. The men's sports include football, cross country, soccer, basketball, baseball, golf and tennis. Women's sports include volleyball, cross country, track and indoor track, soccer, basketball, ...
