Jun. 29--Like the old license plate sayings, "Wander Indiana" and "Back Home Again," Indiana shows the world a casual face.
Go the length and breadth of Indiana, though, and what stands out is the increasing complexity of the state.
While the license plates conveyed a folksy oneness, Indiana no longer is -- if it ever was -- a homogeneous place.
"The only true Hoosier anymore is around Indianapolis," said John Hartstern, chief executive of the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana in New Albany.
