Most anglers will agree that the smallmouth bass is the best fighting freshwater fish.
It is hard to beat the excitement of fighting, landing and releasing a 4- or 5-pound smallmouth bass because pound for pound and jump for jump, smallmouth are a hoot to catch -- and some of the Midwest's best smallmouth fishing is right here in Wisconsin.
Sturgeon Bay is one of the hottest spots (although Lake Mendota right here in Madison just might be spoken in the same breath in the next few years).
