The Red Army Remains
CENTRAL EUROPE is enjoying the third exceptionally mild winter in a row. Ten years ago January and February meant snowdrifts as high as a grown man's head. Ice-skating rinks were unnecessary, because all rivers and lakes froze for months on end. But so far this winter the only chilly winds have been political: easterly, but not mid-easterly.
Perhaps this makes Poland unique. If Sky News (Rupert Murdoch's satellite television network, which reaches as far north as Tallinn and as far east as Kiev) is anything to go by, the Western public is gripped by Gulf War fever to the exclusion of everything else. Poland is affected by the war ...
