Space Station program support contractor Grumman Corp. confirmed yesterday that it will cut an additional 170 Station workers from its ranks. The move brings the total number of Grumman Space Station layoffs to date to 291, according to Grumman spokesman Larry Hamilton.
Grumman acknowledged earlier this month that it had furloughed roughly 121 Station workers in recent months, including 34 which it confirmed in late January (Defense Daily, Jan. 17).
The 291 layoffs represent a major chunk - roughly 30 percent - of Grumman's total 1,046 member Station workforce. The layoffs come as a major congressionally-mandated restructuring of the Space Station ...
