Economic Advisers Reiterate Bush Cable Policy

WASHINGTON -- Cable television policy should be shaped to maximize the scope of competition within the industry, President Bush's Council of Economic Advisers said in an annual report to Congress last week.

The message is not startling given the Bush administration's numerous letters to Congress last year outlining the administration's firm opposition to legislation re-regulating the cable industry and its preference for lifting legal and regulatory barriers to entry to enable telephone companies to compete against cable systems.
