Headline News Basks In CNN's Glow

Headline News has benefited from sister-service Cable News Network's Persian Gulf coverage, and although ratings and ad sales are expected to level off, operators sense that the war has established viewing habits and a stronger identity for the network.

Except for President Bush's speech the first night of the war, Headline News has not strayed from its "wheel" format throughout the Persian Gulf conflict. Operators said this has made it one of the only places where viewers can get a quick, capsulized overview of the day's events, and find news about sports and non-war topics.
