Airline service could return to Detroit City Airport under a proposal pending before the federal government.

Delta Air Lines is interested in flying 50-seat jets between City Airport and Cincinnati, but will need a $1 million federal grant to launch the service, Detroit airport officials have told the U.S. Department of Transportation.

But Detroit, a city with just under a million residents, probably doesn't qualify for the grant program, which is targeted at small communities served by airports that board fewer than 1.7 million passengers a year.
