School nurses still treat coughs and colds, but they've also become bio-terrorism lookouts, disaster responders, disability experts and surrogate mothers.
"There are new roles for school nurses," said Linda C. Wolfe, president of the National Association of School Nurses.
The 11,000-member association wrapped up a four-day convention in Cincinnati Tuesday that included sessions on terrorism and disasters as well as standard topics of drugs and pregnancy.
