Jul. 3--A Sacramento federal judge has temporarily halted a major U.S. Forest Service salvage-logging project in a section of the Tahoe National Forest proposed for wilderness status.
U.S. District Judge Morrison C. England Jr. found merit to claims that the logging could create "extreme levels of flammable" debris, wipe out wildlife habitat or threaten it with further fire, and adversely impact the area's ecological integrity and recreational and scientific values.
