Jul. 3--Cox Communications is raising rates for cable television service again, but the increase for most Rhode Island customers is the smallest in several years.

The vast majority of Cox customers here will see their monthly bills rise just 50 cents, representing a 1.2-percent increase.

Cox, based in Atlanta, is the dominant cable company in Rhode Island with about 305,000 customers, or about 97 percent of all subscribers in the state. (The other major cable company is Full Channel Cable Television of Warren with about 9,000 customers.)
