Jul. 4--NORFOLK, Va.--Norfolk's wish to become a player in the cruise line industry took a big step Thursday when Holland America announced the city would serve as the home port of the Maasdam by January.

The 10-year-old Maasdam, which can hold almost 1,300 passengers, has been sailing out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., but will begin 10-day and 11-day cruises to the Caribbean out of Norfolk.
