Progress in sleep research offers clues into brain development and sleep disorders.
Basic sleep research has made tremendous progress in the past decade and holds great promise for treating persons with health problems related to sleep, according to a report from the National Institute of Medicine.
Progress has already aided treatment of such diseases and disorders as depression, insomnia, jet lag, sleep-apnea syndrome, and narcolepsy. Other breakthroughs are on the horizon.
