TAIPEI, July 2 Asia Pulse - Taiwan's Ministry of Education (MOE) was yesterday criticized by several legislators for approving a tuition hike for 18 public universities.
Legislator Liu Cheng-hung, secretary-general of the opposition Kuomintang's caucus, said the MOE intentionally avoided the supervision of the Legislative Yuan on the decision by giving the approval when the legislature was in recess.
He said the tuition increase cannot be justified at the moment when many families are suffering from joblessness.
