The farm pond has always been a haven from the rigors of day-to-day life.
It's quite the sanctuary as well ? a place to peacefully ponder the wonders of Mother Nature while enjoying a little bass fishing.
The pond has also been a great mystery.
Until Chip Long and Doug Smith of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries stopped by last Tuesday, nobody really knew what resided in the six acres of tea-colored water in the Black Creek section of Southampton County.
