New federal law protects people with HIV disease
If you are infected with the AIDS virus, you need to be aware that a new civil rights law will protect you against discrimination on the job and in public accommodations.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which is scheduled to go into effect in January of 1992, will protect anyone infected with the AIDS virus from being discriminated against by an employer in the public or private sector, explained Chai Feldblum, JD, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union's (ACLU) AIDS Project in Washington, D.C.
