A recent investigation by the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI) into the care of people with learning disabilities in Bedfordshire and Luton NHS Trust produced the interesting revelation that food was sometimes ordered over the internet. It may be nothing more than an opportunistic habit, but the method used is worthy of consideration as there are implications for the values that underpin attempts to construct a more inclusive society.
The trust deserves praise for getting the home online in the first place. If residents are learning to surf the web they are learning a valuable social skill. But there is a world of difference between ordering a pizza to ...
