Laura de Santillana studied graphic design at New York's School of Visual Arts and began her career working at Vignelli Associates. But in 1977 she yielded to her history and returned to Venice, her birthplace; she comes from a family of designers associated with the historic glassworks at Murano. Since she began to focus on glass she has devised a great variety of objects. A few years ago, she conceived of collapsing freshly blown vessels so that interior walls touch and create patterns that resemble shadows or spilled water. These vessels are shaped like tablets (or canvases), and they gather natural or artificial light with radiant luminosity, like a Rothko painting ...
