Jul. 9--The relentless ...uest to boost revenues in a slow-growth economy is fueling the buying binge of hungry apparel companies, industry observers say.
VF Corp.'s announcement Monday that it will pay $586 million for Nautica Enterprises is the latest example of a continuing industry consolidation in which designer labels are being scooped up by deeper-pocketed rivals that juggle a wide assortment of brands.
VF already has Lee jeans, Vanity Fair lingerie, Healthtex children's clothes and The North Face outdoor gear in its stable.
