An uncertain economy means less recreational spending on boating by most Broward residents. But the all-important local industry is copinq by focusing on high-end yachting, and its more recession-proof clientele.
"Big boats mean big dollars," says Frank Herhold, Executive Director of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF). And he should know. Some 20 percent of the world's megayachts (yachts over 80 feet long) pass near Herhold's Fort Lauderdale office every year.
