Their uniforms had hardly been removed from the spin cycle when the Baltimore Orioles reluctantly boarded an airplane and flew to Mexico City.
The grind of spring training was beginning to take hold, and the prospect of spending the weekend in oppressive heat and pollution had the appeal
of a fastball to the forehead.
It was a trip that would lay the foundation for a champion.
Still feeling the sting of being upset by the Miracle Mets in the 1969 World Series, the Orioles discovered their focus during that promotional trip to Mexico in 1970.
