RDI begins shipping laptop version of Sun workstation
Product uses Sun's popular Sparc chip and board
Claiming to have created the world's fastest, most powerful laptop computer, an obscure San Diego start-up began shipping the product last week after racking up some $40 million in back orders.
"We've been in development for two years and now we're out selling," said Rick Schrameck, president of RDI Computer Corp. in San Diego.
The computer, priced at $12,000 and dubbed BriteLite, not only outpaces other laptops in power and speed, but it also runs software for computers made by Sun Microsystems Inc., International Business Machines ...
