In the evenings leading up to a food fight and small riot at the Dane County Jail last week, inmates ate a fish patty on a bun, Salisbury steak with rice and goulash with mixed vegetables.
But it was the cheese sandwich for dinner that apparently caused Saturday's revolt against food cost cutbacks.
Despite the uprising, in which inmates threw fruit and cheese and broke items in the cell, the jail will continue serving a cold dinner once a week.
Eleven inmates in the jail's City-County Building jail were placed in segregation cells after Saturday's incident, which deputies stopped with pepper spray.
